Okay, ladies and gentleman… just because sandal season is coming to an end it does not mean you need to neglect your feet. Yes, mitten weather is quickly approaching but your hands still deserve to feel healthy and pretty.
I can admit that growing up, I was never good to my nails and took very poor care of them. I rarely got my nails done because at the jobs I had; they would immediately get ruined. Not to mention… I am a nail biter. I am not proud of this and I am getting a lot better because I don’t want ugly 10-year-old boy fingers for the rest of my life. I want to have natural, long, strong, healthy nails that people assume are fake because they are so beautiful.
I highly recommend checking out CURES STUDIO in Liberty Village, Toronto. I tried them for the first time and what an amazing experience. The studio is stunning and so clean, which is most important to me. The facility is toxic free and they only use high-quality products.. even some local ones too! One of my favorites being the scrub by VO BATH & CO.
Not only is there studio beautiful, they really do an amazing job and the girls take great care of you. This is the perfect place to bring your BFF for her birthday or to make it your regular beauty spot.
Stress can be a huge problem for many of us and sometimes it can seem impossible to manage. It can be difficult to avoid the feeling of being stressed and at times, can be even harder to de-stress yourself. I find that really focusing on that one thing at a time is the best way to eliminate stress. Another thing that I find really helpful, is to develop a healthy habit. (Thank me later for this one). You will learn so many great things about yourself that you didn’t know you were capable of. Whether it’s cooking or baking, taking a fun class, doing something crafty or eating healthier. I recently picked up some knitting needles and started to make a blanket for myself to snuggle up in. Hard to believe I’m 20 when I have the same hobbies as a 70-year-old woman.
Aside from the tips I listed above, I also like to visit a few of these places down below.
This morning a visited Civello for a massage. I felt tense before I arrived and was in desperate need for some “me” time. I always request Arlene when getting spa services done at Civello on Queen because of my previous positive experience. She is very sweet and does an amazing job. I highly recommend booking your appointment with her. After my massage was done, I felt amazing and refreshed. The experience at Civello is one of a kind and really helped me de-stress.
For the first time today, I tried a breakfast bowl from Village Juicery. I have heard a lot of great stuff about their juices and they are pretty popular on social media. They run a small pop-up in Lulu Lemon on Queen West. I love the minimalist look that the company uses on their packaging. I got the Probiotic bowl with Coconut Yogurt, Chia Seeds, Hand Made Sunflower Seed Milk, Seasonal Fruit, Pumpkin Seeds, Hemp Hearts, and Vanilla. This made me feel awesome because I began my day with a healthy meal.
Honestly, I haven’t done this in a while but when I was regularly going to classes; I felt amazing. Boxing @ Clancys is such a fun and easy way to make your stress disappear. Hitting the punching bag can be a relief for your stress or anger. The instructor Kristina, was always motivating and fun. I recommend taking one of her classes, she is very helpful and informative.
Having fair skin, I find it extremely difficult to find products that works well for me. Most of these products I have purchased several times and have been using for years and some are new to me. Of course, some are more affordable than others but believe me, they are all worth the money and are all amazing in their own way. If you are looking for a new blush, these are perfect for everyday and evening wear.
R&D ( Rebel and Demon ) is a restaurant that I had been to before, but this year I really wanted to try their Winterlicious menu. We decided to go for lunch and would I would definitely go again. Owned by Eric Chong, MasterChef winner and Michelin-starred chef and MasterChef judge, Alvin Leung. This time we actually got the chance to sit at the Chefs Table and talk to Eric. I was a huge fan of him while he was competing on MasterChef Canada, so this was really exciting. Made my experience at R&D all the more enjoyable.
Appetizer – Glass Noodle Salad (vegetarian)
Each course was amazing and something unique. The cold noodle salad was so refreshing and full of flavour. I liked the choice of vegtables they used here. Topped with a sweet miso vinaigrette, this appetizer was overall a good pick!
Entree – Seafood Curry
I had never tried seafood curry before but this one will be hard to beat! They load the rich and creamy curry with seafood, I was impressed with the amount of food they give with the lunch for Winterlicious. This dish does not actually come with the coconut rice, it was an additional cost. Although this really did bring the dish all together, I couldnt imagine the curry without it.
Dessert – Sticky Toffee Pudding (vegetarian) OR Lychee Panna Cotta
The Toffee Pudding was not much of a pudding. I was not expecting the cakeyness consistancey of the “pudding” , but I loved it! Huge size dessert, big enough to share. Steamed Malaysian date cake, maple caramel, vanilla ice cream and pineapple. This was a great choice. I also got to try the Lychee Panna Cotta with Macerated blackberries, housemade granola with ginger. This was light but an amazing dessert, i actually prefered this one over the Toffee Pudding.
It’s that time of year again boys and girls! The moment when you feel like you just bought that special someone something. Not even 2 months after Christmas, the lovely Valentine’s Day quickly approaches. As much as I do like material things, nothing compares to a gift from the heart. A handwritten letter or card are always amazing to get on Valentine’s Day, makes you feel thought about and cared for. Homemade gifts are always fun and sentimental, something that I personally appreciate the most.
If you are stuck for gifts this year for that special woman in your life, here are a few cute and fun ideas.
My favourite kind of deliveries are definitely underwear. Actually, make that comfortable underwear. Recently I tried out Lounge Underwearproducts, this is a company I had seen on Instagram and fell in love with. They are made in the UK and are super comfy and fit fairly well. They are made out of 100% Cotton and the quality of the product is very well-made. What I like most about the set is that the bra is elastic all the way around (no bra clasp). The shipping was really quick and the packaging was sleek and simple, which I also love. The idea is similar to Calvin Klein’s underwear sets, but I think that Lounge adds a more feminine look.
Thank you Lounge Underwear for the wonderful gift!
The most recent restaurant that I have visited, Hungry Amoo. This is a great spot for snacks and drinks on Ossington, you have to check out! All the dishes that I tried were creative and so flavourful. Hungry Amoo offers dishes from different international cuisines, some of which I had never tried before. Something that I really love about this restaurant is that the menu is seasonal and changes based on which ingredients are most fresh.
All the employees here were very friendly and helpful, especially our server Yasmine. She was passionate about the menu and explained how it worked, so we could get a better understanding of the type of cuisine. Yasmine also recommended a few dishes, which I found really nice. Needless to say, we were definitely taken care of @ Hungry Amoo.
But my favorite thing about eating @ Hungry Amoo, is that we left with belly’s full of wonderful food! And all of it was gluten-free.
Cool bar setup! Delicious cocktails too, most of which I had never heard of before. I tried the pomegranate spritz and I found it had such a unique flavour. This is definitely a great place to go for drinks with friends!
Overall, I had a great experience dining at Hungry Amoo. I would recommend trying it out here because the menu is so diverse and unique. They master all different cuisines, theres a bit of everything.
Thank you to the Hungry Amoo Team and to Yasmine for being such a great help! I will be back to try the Pistachio Soup.
Recently, I have begun a new hair routine to strengthen my thin and broken locks. A product that has already made a difference is my new AQUIS Hair Towel. I received this towel about 2 weeks ago and have used it after every hair wash. It is made to soak all of the water out of your hair to reduce the use of a blow dryer. When hair is wet it is most vulnerable, so minimizing heat is very important. Aquis is made up of a material that quickly and safely drys the hair. The longer that your hair stays wet, the more it stretches and water it absorbs. But, when it gets too stretched and bloated the keratin bonds rupture and your hair loses all natural elasticity. So it’s crucial to dry your hair fast to prevent damage. But to do so in a way that doesn’t stress or stretch your hair. It is lightweight, so it does not pull on your head and you can continue with your beauty routine while having this gentle towel on.
I got LUXE LONG HAIR TOWELin Moody Grey and Ive noticed that by keeping this towel on my head for as little as ten minutes, my hair is about 75-80% dry. This is perfect for the winter months because coming out of the shower with wet hair, is uncomfortably chilly. This drys the hair fast and damage-free.
Monday evening, I discovered a true hidden gem on Yorkville Ave in Toronto. Blu Ristorante and Lounge is a fantastic place for modern Italian food. They offer two separate dinner menus. One is a regular dinner menu with a wide variety of antipasti, salad, pasta, meat and fish to choose from. The second menu that Blu offers is The Five Course Chef’s Tasting Menu. This is a prefixed menu that can be done as is, or can be done as a pairing with some of their best wines. They also offer a group event prefix menu, depending on how much you are looking to spend per person. This is definitely a venue to consider for any upcoming holiday function, meeting, birthday or anniversary. All the staff at Blu Ristorante are extremely helpful and friendly, always making sure we were well looked after.
There is honestly something for everyone on the menu at Blu. The menu accommodates all carnivores, vegetarians and even your most picky eater. With a large selection, they even offer gluten free alternatives. Gluten Free Rice Pasta or Quinoa Fusilli are available by request.
Below are a variety of items, which you have to give a try.
We were first introduced to this place years ago by a friend and fell INLOVE with the food and atmosphere! El Catrin is in the Distillery District in Toronto and is my favorite restaurant there.
The wait is always long so it’s best to make reservations beforehand, especially if you have a larger party. Last night we waited for about 40 minutes but it is always worth it.
El Catrin is a tapas style dining experience, which means that you kinda just order a few things and share them amongst the group your with. Adam and I normally get the Grande Guacamole, which the server mashes in front of the table. We also ordered the a tun civeche with watermelon, which we had never tried before. This was amazing and so fresh. This dish is big enough for two people to try and came with house made tortilla chips.
I ordered the Baja fish tacos, which we could not share because they were not gluten free. These seemed to be very popular (everyone around us were ordering them) and sounded pretty good, so decided to try them. They were really good but way to heavily battered for me. I don’t think I would get them again, expecially if I am eating them alone. They are very heavy, saucey and a bit over fried for my liking. Adam got some corn tortilla tacos with pork. Have no idea what they were called 😁 but they looked really good and wish I got those instead.
Overall, everything was amazing and we can’t wait to go back. The patio was just as great as inside!
